Konieczność przestrzegania przepisów w okresie ciszy przedwyborczej

The General Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu) reminded election participants to refrain from any form of campaign activity during the pre-election silence period, which lasts for three days leading up to the voting day, from February 11th to 13th. Lolly Suhenty, a member of Bawaslu, stated that internet patrols have been deployed to monitor the social media accounts of election participants to ensure that no campaign activities are conducted.

“To ensure that these accounts do not engage in inappropriate actions such as incitement or defamation, as regulated by the ITE law, and Bawaslu has the authority to handle violations of the law,” said Lolly on February 11th.

During the silence period, from February 11th to 13th, all campaign-related activities, both direct and through social media, are strictly prohibited. “If any campaign activities continue, they will be considered as violations,” she added.

Lolly also urged election participants to refrain from the practice of giving money or goods to the public in exchange for votes. This practice, known as monetary inflation, is considered a violation of electoral law.

“We all know that Article 523, paragraph 2 [of electoral law] imposes a penalty of four years’ imprisonment and a fine of 48 million rupiahs, if I’m not mistaken,” she explained.

It is worth noting that monetary inflation is not limited to cash transactions alone; it also encompasses the use of digital money. Bawaslu is collaborating with the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK) to monitor this matter.
