Nowe telewizory OLED: Rezolucyjna bitwa gigantów

The TV market is currently at a crossroads, primarily with a multifaceted battle for dominance in the premium segment. The fight for the future of OLED technology is taking place between two leaders – LG and Samsung.

LG, with Micro Lens Array (MLA) technology, and Samsung, with QD-OLED panel, are competing with each other. Both companies have one goal – to increase the maximum brightness of OLED panels. After testing TVs using these technologies, such as LG G3, Panasonic MZ2000, Samsung S95C, and Sony A95L, we can confirm that it is a very close competition. Both technologies offer a visible increase in maximum brightness and have the potential to significantly improve the performance of OLED TVs.

The battle between these two manufacturers will continue in the coming years. At CES 2024 in Las Vegas, they presented their next flagship models, such as LG G4, Philips OLED909, Panasonic Z95A, and Samsung S95D.

However, it is also important for consumers that technological innovations reach more affordable models. Currently, it is increasingly difficult to find TVs with good performance at an affordable price. This is evident in our guide to cheap TVs, where we cannot find many good performers in this price category.

For example, the Samsung CU8000 TV appears to be an attractive model due to its modern design, powerful processor, and a price below £400. However, after conducting thorough tests, it turned out that it does not meet our expectations. During testing, we encountered issues with backlight blurring, low sound quality, and limited HDR capabilities.

A similar situation occurred with the Hisense 50A6KTUK model, which had issues with black levels, limited viewing angles, and imprecise color reproduction.

It is even worse than cheap models we tested a few years ago. However, this is not solely Samsung’s fault. Generally speaking, the quality of budget TVs has not only not improved but even worsened.

Of course, there are exceptions to this rule. An example is the Amazon Fire TV Omni QLED, which received a full five-star rating in our review. However, it is still quite expensive – costing around £500. My dream of OLED TVs becoming available at a price of £500 may be unfounded. I would be satisfied if LCD TVs capable of delivering good image quality appeared on the market.

I hope that decision-makers in TV companies understand this situation and pay more attention to the affordable TV segment this year. We, the What Hi-Fi? team, will be searching for gems in this category. If you have any TVs that you think meet our requirements, please contact us through social media or our forum. We will try to test them.
