Współpraca pomiędzy Samsungiem i General Motors na rzecz samochodów elektrycznych

Samsung is not only engaged in the production of smartphones, tablets, and televisions. The company also manufactures display panels, batteries, and various electronic components that are utilized by many companies worldwide. Yesterday, the CEO of General Motors, Mary Barra, met with high-ranking representatives of Samsung to discuss collaboration concerning batteries and other electronic components for electric vehicles.

According to the news agency Yonhap News, CEO Mary Barra traveled to Seoul, South Korea, to meet with representatives from Samsung Display, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, and Samsung SDI. During her visit to Korea, Mary Barra met with the President of Samsung Display, Choi Joo-sun, the CEO of Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Chang Duck-hyun, and the President of Samsung SDI, Choi Yoon-ho. This marks Mary Barra’s first official visit to South Korea since assuming the position of CEO of General Motors in 2016.

Mary Barra discussed cooperation in the construction of an EV battery factory in partnership with GM and Samsung SDI. This battery factory is being built in the state of Indiana, USA. Production is planned to commence in the factory by 2026, with an annual production capacity of 30 gigawatt-hours. Additionally, the possibility of utilizing Samsung’s camera sensors and display panels in electric vehicles and connected GM vehicles was also discussed.

During her current visit to South Korea, CEO Mary Barra also met with representatives from LG Energy Solutions. General Motors and LG Energy Solutions are jointly building a separate battery factory for electric vehicles, located in the state of Michigan, USA. It is important to note that Samsung SDI and LG Energy Solutions are competitors in the electric vehicle battery market, while LG Display and Samsung Display compete in the OLED panel market for smartphones, laptops, televisions, and electric vehicles.
