Alfa Romeo’s 33 Stradale EV: The Future of Supercars

Alfa Romeo’s iconic 33 Stradale has made history as the brand’s final supercar with an internal combustion engine. However, amidst the V6-powered units, a fully electric version emerged as an alternative for a select few. Breaking tradition, Alfa Romeo CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato recently shared a mesmerizing 40-second clip, revealing the 33 Stradale in electric form.

Capturing attention instantly, the electric variant retains the remarkable design of its twin-turbo, 3.0-liter engine counterpart. Yet, one striking difference is immediately apparent – there is no signature V6 sound. Instead, the remarkable and distinctive whining of the electric motors takes center stage. This is the future soundscape of supercars, as alternatives to gasoline engines become increasingly common.

Although the electric 33 Stradale boasts an additional 130 horsepower, totaling 750 HP, we would still opt for the V6 version without hesitation. Both variants boast stunning acceleration, effortlessly sprinting from 0 to 60 mph in less than three seconds and reaching top speeds of over 200 mph. What truly amazes is the electric variant’s impressive range of 280 miles (450 kilometers) on a single charge.

Collaboratively crafted with Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera, the 33 Stradale features butterfly doors that add to its breathtaking appeal. While the combustion engine version powers the rear wheels, the EV configuration utilizes a triple motor setup, enabling all-wheel drive performance. The gasoline variant is equipped with a ZF eight-speed, dual-clutch transmission, expertly channeling power from the mid-mounted engine to the rear axle.

To add to its allure, Alfa Romeo has kept the price tag of the modern-day 33 Stradale a well-kept secret. With all 33 units sold before the official debut, there was no need to disclose the official pricing. Reports suggest a price of around $2.8 million, although Alfa Romeo has not confirmed this figure.

Although production is set to commence on June 24, 2024, Alfa Romeo has already announced plans to unveil an electric-only supercar in 2026. It seems the legacy of the 33 Stradale will live on, possibly with another retro-inspired name, as Alfa Romeo delves further into the electrified future of supercars.
