Title: BSNL Signs Agreements with IIT Madras and Anna University to Promote Education and Expand 4G and 5G Networks

State-run telecommunications operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has signed agreements with IIT Madras and Anna University to create new opportunities for students and professionals and promote public-private partnerships in the telecommunications industry. The collaboration aims to expand BSNL’s 4G and 5G networks on educational campuses.

BSNL emphasizes that this partnership aligns with the vision of the Digital India initiative, demonstrating its commitment to technological development and educational excellence in collaboration with academic institutions. The telecommunications sector in India has significant revenue potential, growing at an annual rate of 10%.

Under the agreements, BSNL will propose various initiatives, including courses aimed at developing the skills of students and young professionals. Notably, IIT Madras will launch an international one-year course in telecommunications technology and management in collaboration with BSNL. Additionally, short-term telecommunication technology courses (STTC) will be introduced to bridge the gap between industry and academia, improving employment opportunities for students.

To support these initiatives, BSNL will establish laboratories on the campuses of Anna University in Chennai, Coimbatore, Trichy, Madurai, and Nagercoil. The plan is also to expand STTC courses to about 450 AU-affiliated colleges in Tamil Nadu in the near future. Furthermore, BSNL will expand its 4G and 5G networks to cover the campuses of IIT Madras and Anna University, as well as extend the network to the remaining 450 colleges.

As part of the collaboration, BSNL has also committed to supporting start-ups from IIT Madras Pravartak by providing them access to its extensive infrastructure and network solutions for business development.

The agreements were formalized in the presence of Chairman and Managing Director of BSNL and MTNL, Shri Pravina Kumara Purwara, and key stakeholders from IIT Madras and Anna University.

Partnering with renowned educational institutions aims to accelerate the growth of the telecommunications sector and promote the development of skilled professionals in line with the Digital India initiative.
