Celeste 64: A New Edition of the Cult Platformer on N64

Maddy Makes Games celebrates the sixth anniversary of the game Celeste by presenting the latest and most ambitious version of this beloved platformer. Celeste 64: Fragments of the Mountain is now available on the itch.io platform and offers a completely three-dimensional version of the game on the N64, with low-level polygonal graphics and unique challenges.

Celeste 64: Fragments of the Mountain is described as a “small, moving 3D platformer that takes us back to the Celeste Mountain with Madeline.” The game was created within a week by the Celeste team to commemorate the sixth anniversary of the original game’s release.

The IGN team contacted the creators of Maddy Makes Games to learn more about the creation of Celeste 64. However, this is not the first time the creators have revamped Celeste. To celebrate the third anniversary of the game, Maddy Makes Games released a charming semi-sequel for Pico-8, a virtual machine that emulates the capabilities of 8-bit computers from the 80s.

Although Celeste 64 was created in a short time, the game offers a surprising amount of content, including bonus levels with music reminiscent of Super Mario Sunshine. Additionally, it features dialogues that take place after the conclusion of the original game, making it a kind of sequel.

The original Celeste was released in 2018 and gained recognition for its precise controls and unforgettable music. Last year, we called it “one of the most important trans games in history.”

Celeste 64 is now available for download on Windows computers, with the macOS version coming soon. The game’s team is currently working on fixes and bug removal.
